The Gist of SEO

As our digital society develops, algorithms become more and more complex.

Some people see it as an evil plot to control everyone. 

Maybe it is. I don’t know. I just work here. 

But consider this: search engines, platforms, software developers, etc. are providing a service, and they want their service to be the best. Basically, Google, Facebook, Yelp, etc. are building formulas that ensure when people use their search functions, they get excellent results. Their formulas/algorithms are looking for sites that have relevant and engaging content, user-friendly navigation, and a product the searchers will actually buy. (Note: “Buy” could mean signing up for newsletters, reading more blogs, paying for a subscription service, commenting on a post, etc.) 

So if you want search engines--including YouTube, Pinterest, and search functions on any platform or site--to favor you, make sure your website and social media profile have:
• content that’s relevant and engaging to your target audience
• navigation that is easy and makes sense to your target audience
• products your target audience will actually buy

Or, in summary, make a great website for your target audience, and your website/profile will perform better in search engines. 

It’s as simple as that. 

Well, it’s a lot more complicated than that, but that’s the gist of it.
